Broxtowe Neighbourhood Policing Update
Current Local Priorities Our current policing priorities are:
• Drug dealing and anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Eastwood Eastwood: Drug Dealing and ASB (Operation Panamanian) Drug-Related Activity Priority activity has moved from South Street to Hall Park, Mansfield Recreation Ground and Coppice Drive within the Eastwood South area. Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) officers have been carrying out high-visibility patrols in the Coppice Drive area. During these patrols, officers arrested a man on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs and committing shop theft offences. He was subsequently recalled to prison. In a separate incident, a man was arrested on Princess Street, Eastwood, following reports of a disturbance outside an address. Following enquiries, he was charged with possession of Class A drugs. As a result of proactive patrols and enforcement activity, reported drug offences in the area have remained stable. Officers will continue targeted patrols to provide reassurance, deter offending and address community concerns.
Anti-Social Behaviour Reports have been received regarding anti-social behaviour along Nottingham Road, Eastwood. Incidents include groups of children causing disruption near local shops, entering premises and riding scooters in the area. Further concerns have also been raised in Kimberley relating to young people running through businesses premises, causing noise and disturbance. NPT officers have met with affected businesses and organisations to provide reassurance and discuss ongoing concerns. Enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved, and officers will continue working with local partners to prevent further incidents.
Off-Road Bikes Police have continued patrols across Eastwood alongside the Off-Road Bike Team. Following reports of a Surron bike in the Nottingham Road area, officers conducted searches after the rider failed to stop. Despite extensive enquiries, the rider was not identified. On 19 July, a 17-year-old was arrested after officers intercepted two suspected stolen mopeds in the Trowell and Woodhouse Way area. Following a short pursuit, one rider was detained and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving without a licence or insurance, and possession of cannabis. Both mopeds were recovered and the individual has been released on police bail while enquiries continue. Additional reports relating to off-road bikes have been received from Gunnersbury Way, Coronation Park, Giltbrook and Newthorpe. The Off-Road Bike Team will return during August to target these areas. We are also working closely with the City West Neighbourhood Policing Team to tackle off-road bike nuisance around Broxtowe Country Park, supporting a coordinated approach across both policing areas. Beeston Town Centre ASB (Operation Comprehensive) Youth and Alcohol-Related ASB Following a recent incident on the Beeston tram network involving a young person found in possession of a knife, officers acted swiftly and the individual has since been charged. As part of ongoing efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour in Beeston town centre, five young people have been issued Anti-Social Behaviour Contracts (ABCs). The contracts follow reports of criminal damage, shop theft, climbing buildings and tram surfing in and around Broadgate Park and Beeston High Road. The agreements were signed in the presence of parents or guardians and set clear expectations around future behaviour.
Crime Update Evan Pidgeon, aged 38, of Great Hoggett Drive, Chilwell, has been convicted of fraud by false representation after using a bank card left inside an unattended vehicle in Beeston on 24 June. The victim received banking notifications showing unauthorised purchases totalling more than £60. Following CCTV enquiries, Pidgeon was identified, arrested and pleaded guilty at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on 23 July. He also admitted a shop theft offence committed on 15 July and received an eight-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months. This serves as an important reminder not to leave valuables inside vehicles, as opportunistic offenders can quickly take advantage. Stapleford and Chilwell: Drug-Related and Acquisitive Crime (Operation Techno) Drug Crime Enforcement NPT officers executed a warrant at an address on Central Avenue as part of ongoing efforts to tackle drug-related crime. No controlled drugs were located during the search. Officers have also been working alongside Derbyshire Police to address cross-border drug-related criminality. Joint enforcement activity resulted in a number of stop searches and the arrest of individuals. Outcomes included: • Two charges This partnership work continues to disrupt criminal activity and tackle drug-related offending within our communities.
E-Bike ASB Reports relating to e-bike nuisance have reduced over the last month, reflecting the positive impact of targeted patrol activity. Only one report of e-bike ASB was received in the Derby Road, Beeston area. A separate report related to the theft of an e-bike from a communal area at The Lilacs, Beeston. Enquiries into the theft remain ongoing.
Operation Burnout: Car Meets and Street Racing During July, Nottinghamshire Police received reports relating to alleged car meets, street racing and vehicle-related anti-social behaviour in the A52, Toton Lane, Bardills Island, Swiney Way and Chilwell Retail Park areas. Approximately eight incidents were recorded during the month, including one duplicate report. Officers attended most incidents, generally arriving within 10 to 15 minutes. One vehicle gathering was dispersed on 4 July. However, no offences were identified. At all other attended incidents, officers found no evidence of organised street racing, large-scale car meets or anti-social vehicle use. Analysis shows that most reports were received late on Saturday evenings and into the early hours of Sunday mornings. Patrols will continue during these peak periods. Residents are encouraged to provide vehicle registrations, descriptions, CCTV, dashcam footage or other evidence wherever possible when reporting incidents.
